Porchlight launch delayed

Porchlight Communications' plan to launch video service in some parts of Colorado Springs has been delayed to July 1. The company had planned to begin service June 16.

Verizon adds towers

Verizon Wireless customers in southeast Colorado Springs and seven other Colorado cities will be more likely to answer yes when asked “Can you hear me now?”
The company added a new cell tower site near Academy Boulevard and South Chelton Road along with seven others in Boulder, Denver, Greeley, Lakewood, Longmont, Northglenn and Thornton in response to rising demand for wireless voice, multimedia and Internet access.
The nation’s largest wireless provider, a joint venture of Verizon Communications Inc. and Vodafone Group Plc, spent $102 million last year adding cell tower sites in Colorado.

Qwest teams up with Verizon

Qwest Communications signed a five-year agreement with Verizon Wireless on Monday to provide wireless service to its customers beginning this summer, replacing Qwest’s wireless deal with Sprint.
Qwest customers will be able to get Verizon services bundled with their home phone or DSL package. Customers with Sprint wireless plans will be transitioned to Verizon service.

Qwest extends DSL broadband

Qwest Communications International Inc. has extended its DSL broadband service to Calhan and Keenesburg, near Fort Lupton. The Denver-based telecommunications giant said it now offers high-speed Internet access to about 83 percent of the homes in its service area at speeds of up to 7 megabits per second.

Can you hear me now -- Manitou and Falcon

Verizon Wireless has expanded its high-speed broadband service in the Colorado Springs and Denver areas to including Falcon and Manitou Springs.
The cell phone giant also expanded its Denver-area broadband coverage to including Elizabeth, Evergreen, Ken Caryl Ranch and Lone Tree as well as casino meccas Black Hawk and Central City. The company said it has invested more than $500 million in its Colorado network during the past five years to expand capacity and coverage.
Verizon's Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A network offers average download speeds of 600 kilobits to 1.4 megabits per second and is targeted at mobile professionals, business customers and students. At those speeds, users could download a 1 megabyte file in eight seconds and upload the same file in 13 seconds.

Verizon Wireless store opens on east side

Verizon Wireless has opened a store at 4331 Integrity Center Point, at the northwest corner of Powers Boulevard and Barnes Road. Verizon Wireless Communications Stores are staffed for sales, customer service and technical support, including providing sales and dedicated service to small-business customers with as many as 50 lines of service.
