Home Depot buys company with Springs roots

Edson Electric Supply Inc. , founded in Colorado Springs more than 40 years ago and now one of the largest independent electrical suppliers in the country, has been purchased by Home Depot for an undisclosed price. The deal is expected to become final later this month. Edson has 11 locations, all in Arizona. The chain sells general electrical supplies both to residential and commercial contractors. Sales revenue has grown from $50 million in 2000 to more than $137 million last year. William Edson started the company when he bought an electrical supply house in Colorado Springs, then expanded with stores in Denver and in Phoenix.The company sold its Colorado operations in the 1970s and since has focused exclusively on Arizona where it has 11 stores.
